History
Hello and welcome! I’m Eleanor, the founder of Benang Studio. I started this label in 2019 by selling headbands and beanies on Facebook and Instagram. To be honest, this dream was manifested in 2012 when I bought my first pair of knitting needles and skein of yarn from a quaint wool shop in Grainger Street, Newcastle. After graduating from law school I took a sabbatical year and decided I wanted to learn something new just for me. I mustered the courage to enter the wool shop after looking into it longingly for a good one month and rushed home right after and went on YouTube to learn the basics of knitting and the rest was history.
I started making scarves for my housemate and friends. Next, I would make baby blankets and throw blankets and ship them off to where ever my friends and family were. Soon after I started knitting baby blankets, baby beanies, booties, cardigans (you name it and I would have probably knitted it) for my little baby boy. After resettling in Malaysia, I decided to share my passion with the world and that’s the birth of my label, Benang.
What started purely as a need to learn something new turned into a hobby and subsequently grew into a small business. I’m blessed beyond words to be able to share my passion for knitting, crocheting and creating with all of you. Welcome to my dream and happy browsing!
What Do I Do
I create knitted and crocheted fashion accessories, baby wear and home decor. Some creations are of my own designs and some are designed by renown knitwear and crochet designers. All of my creations are hand made and doused with love. What you see in my store is not merely a product. It’s my passion, my time, my love and my vision for slow and sustainable fashion.
